Last Chance to buy at Zen

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2014

Buyers have always known that Zen in East Clayton is an exceptional development. And now it’s official. Zen has just been nominated for a remarkable four awards in BC’s most prestigious housing awards program, The Ovation Awards. Every year the Greater Vancouver Homebuilders Association celebrates excellence in homebuilding, design & marketing, and has named the finalists in a multitude of categories, Zen was chosen in four of them.

Zen is a finalist for the best kitchen in a multi-family development. According to developer Zenterra, the kitchens at Zen represent the largest kitchens in a multifamily development in the Metro Vancouver area. Kitchens in the four bedroom townhomes measure a huge 16’ x 16, and include lots of highly sought after features like five burner gas cooktops, double wall ovens, quartz countertops, glass backsplash and custom shaker style cabinetry. Most units also feature a 4 x 4 island with an optional built in wine fridge.

From the high quality 39oz carpet throughout the upper floors, to the 2’ wide window blinds and the 9’ high ceilings, it’s evident from the moment you step in the door that it’s the attention to detail that makes the difference. The story doesn’t stop there, all the bathrooms at Zen feature quartz countertops, and under cabinet lighting, while master bathrooms also include double-wide glass showers and luxurious warming towel rails. A unique feature that always gets attention is the ‘Makeup Vanity’ that provides extra counter space for cosmetic and wellness items, plus an additional four electrical outlets. Because our West Coast lifestyle means we spend so much of our time outdoors, Zen is designed to make the most of it.

The thoughtful landscaping includes open green spaces with walkways that are perfect for that after dinner stroll. With full natural gas barbeque hookups Zen gives the chef in the family a chance to show off their culinary skills while friends and family relax on the oversized 8 x 20 sundecks.

Parking is easy too, with double, and tandem garages and lots of visitor parking for those memorable family gatherings.

Other kinds of entertainment are catered for as well. The Zenterra Signature Entertainment Wall features a custom Italian stone finished fi replace, and offers all the interconnectivity options that today’s buyers demand.

Despite the feeling of tranquility that living at Zen provides, the location couldn’t be more convenient. Within a few minutes’ drive there are literally hundreds of shopping options, from quaint sidewalk cafes to Willowbrook Mall and Costco.

Zen has also been nominated for three of the most prestigious Ovation Awards, Best Townhouse Development, Best Marketing Campaign and Multi-Family Home Builder of the Year. Winners will be announced on April 26th.

The final phase of Zen has been released to the market with 3 bedroom and 3 bedrooms and flex room tandem homes starting from just $345,900.

Zen’s showhome is located at 196 Street and 66 Ave and is open every day (including Fridays) between 12 and 5pm.

Considering that Denise Tinline was watching Guy Fieri on the Food Network when The Sun knocked on her door, it’s fitting that the kitchen was one of the reasons she opted for a Zen townhome.

“It’s THE reason,” added her husband Ben a few minutes later, as Denise enumerated the many selling points of the townhome they recently moved into.

According to developer Zenterra, in fact, the townhomes have “the largest kitchen in a multi-family development in Metro Vancouver.” For empty nesters who like to entertain, like the Tinlines, the new townhome seems made to order.

Each of the four-bedroom West Coast Craftsman-style units has a 16-by-16-foot kitchen. Features include a five-burner gas cooktop — very important to foodies like the Denise and Ben — a double wall oven and a four-by-four-foot island (with an optional wine cooler).

“We looked at other new complexes, but they were a lot more narrow,” Denise said. “This is twenty feet wide. You could see that with the kitchen, the expanse going across, it wasn’t at all like what we’d see previously. I’d look at these newer developments and say, ‘Where am I going to put all my stuff? I have a lot of kitchen apparatus.’”

The Tinlines fit into a niche that Zenterra Development and marketing rep Derek Fenton says weren’t being met in the townhome market: Baby boomers downsizing from a regular home who still want the space and don’t want to worry about maintaining the grounds.

“They’ve worked hard for 30 years and just want to relax,” Fenton said. “We wanted to provide quality for purchasers who wanted the amenities of a home and the square footage.”

The Tinlines fit this profile to a certain extent. Though not retired — Ben still works, and Denise plans on returning to the workforce in the new year — and not quite of the boomer generation, they are empty nesters. Their three twenty-something daughters have flown the coop, in their case the family’s 4,500-square-foot home in Maple Ridge. And the Tinlines did want to downsize, but not to a starter-home size.

The price, Fenton noted, starts just below the price for a single-family detached home in the area.

Each of the Zen townhomes is a four-bedroom units with over 1,900-square-feet of living space. The units include a sizable (eight-by-20-foot) deck, with a natural gas hookup for the avid barbecuer, and a spacious, 20-by-20-foot tandem garage.

“And then the finishings are really nice,” Denise noted.

Inside a Zen townhome, Zenterra and its designer Robert Ciccozzi Architecture Inc. have added a number of luxury touches.

On the upper floor, the 13-by-14-foot master bedrooms have rope lighting mounted about the suspended crown moulding, adding a warm glow against the perimeter of the ceiling. The warm glow of this feature is matched in the bathroom by under-sink lighting.

The ensuite comes with double sinks set in a quartz countertop, a towel warmer, custom vanity and double-sided shower. The master bedroom also features a chandelier and six-by-eight-foot walk-in closet.

On the main floor, a gas fireplace set in Italian stone defines the entertainment system, another selling point for the Tinlines, Denise said.

The lower floor features a fourth bedroom, or flex room, which the Tinlines have converted for use as a home gym.

The active couple likes to travel, and another Zen feature they appreciate is not having to worry about upkeep on the property.

“Being able to just shut it up and not worry about it, and just go, is great,” Denise said. “We’re close to the border if we want to fly out of Bellingham or just go across the line.” Many of the second-phase units, due for completion at the end of January 2014, will have views of Mount Baker.

Tinline said she also loves the fact that “there’s so much shopping here.” The Surrey development is a five-minute drive from Costco and Willowbrook Shopping Centre.

The Tinlines are looking forward to sharing their new space with their daughters.

“They love the kitchen,” Denise said. “We spend a lot of time in the kitchen. I love to cook. And my daughters love to cook and eat. It will be a great gathering place for us.”

Phase 2 Brings New Possibilities to Zen Living

Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013

Industry recognition and critical acclaim are signs that a new home development is on the right track. Of greater significance, though, is the response of potential buyers. Zenterra Developments invited potential buyers at Zen Townhomes, their latest endeavor, to “Live Life Relaxed.” The response to that invitation is best demonstrated by the fact that Phase 1 of Zen Townhomes has almost sold out, and Phase 2 has now been released.

The homes in Phase 2 offer some of the best unobstructed views in the entire community, making the most of the natural vistas that surround the property. Striking Mount Baker views serve as a reminder of why living in the lower mainland is so desirable. Land adjacent to the project has been acquired by the City of Surrey as part of a major north-south trail in the city’s extensive network of paths and trails that make it easy for residents to take life outdoors. Accessible open green spaces with an abundance of trees are emerging as a virtual trademark for this region.

The restful, welcoming ambience continues throughout every aspect of the spacious Zen Townhomes designed by Robert Ciccozzi Architecture. The 15 homes in Phase 2 are all in excess of 1,900 square feet and maintain Zen’s timeless West Coast craftsman-style. Phase 2 features the sought-after “F” floor plans. Starting at $438,900, these 4-bedroom homes also include a den to add another dimension to designs that accommodate all aspects of an active life with an ease that belies their efficiency.

The kitchens in these townhomes express this concept as eloquently as any room in the house. Over sixteen feet wide, Zen kitchens are designed for living, not just cooking. Rich shaker style cabinets provide all the storage space a creative home chef could hope for, and more. A substantial island in every kitchen ensures ample workspace. Double wall ovens and optional wine fridges are just two examples of the thoughtful appointments that complement the high-end Whirlpool, KitchenAid and Panasonic appliances. Of course, every home chef will be delighted with the 5-burner cook top. Quartz counter tops are featured not just in the kitchen, but throughout each Zen townhome.

The key to the Zenterra formula is to build exceptional quality and value into every home from the beginning. Currently, the Zen homes include a $20,000 upgrade package that adds those final high-end touches. Consider the master bath suites in the Zen townhomes. Each master bath is outfitted with double sinks, one for him and one for her as well as a custom designed vanity desk with exquisitely tailored shelving. Each extra large walk-in shower has two opposing showerheads, and a towel warmer makes sure that the luxury spa experience continues when the shower is over.

Zenterra’s promise to following through on their commitment to quality can be seen in every detail from colour to finishes. The signature entertainment wall in each main floor living room is an outstanding example of the impeccable features. An Italian stone tiled fireplace provides the finishing touch to what will surely be the hub of relaxed family living. Designed for all aspects of contemporary home viewing and entertainment, this room will accommodate every family’s unique choices and priorities.

Zen townhomes are ideally situated for easy access to all of those other things that life demands. Walk to shopping that covers the spectrum from local boutique to big-box retailer. Relax and share some time with neighbours and friends in local pubs, restaurants, and coffee shops. Professional services and first-rate schools for all age groups are conveniently nearby. In fact, all of the amenities one would expect of an urban district are close at hand, but in an atmosphere that spares Zen residents from the usual urban stresses.

As is often the case with the unique or innovative, personal experience makes it easier to absorb and appreciate the details. With Phase 1 at the occupancy stage – new residents are moving in – Zen is no longer a concept or temporary display unit. The beauty, quality and value are there to be seen. Visit www.zenterra.ca and follow the link to Zen Living to learn more about Phase 2 or call 604-355-0166 to have your questions answered.

Zen in Surrey – BIGGER, BETTER, BOLDER

Friday, October 18th, 2013

According to Anita, Sales Manager, the townhomes at Zen in Surrey “offer the feel of a detached single-family home for the price of a townhome.” He continues, “These homes have been very popular with downsizers. As a matter of fact, nearly half of our traffic here have been zoomers (boomers with Zip!), who are used to living in detached homes, and they have been very receptive to these because the homes at Zen just don’t feel like run-of-the-mill townhomes. They’re bigger, better and bolder.”

For instance, recent Buyers at Zen, Bob and Wima Brand, had looked at a lot of townhomes before making the decision to buy at Zen, but according to Wima,”couldn’t find the quality and high-end finishes that Zen offers elsewhere. The gourmet kitchen is one of the most attractive features, along with the location.”

CLASSIC STYLE MEETS BOLD DESIGN
Designed by award-winning architect Robert Ciccozzi, these homes are done in West-Coast Craftsman style and have bold interiors with a European flare. The main living area offers a beautifully built-in floor to ceiling Entertainment Wall, unique to Zenterra Developments, accentuated by a custom elongated Italian stone-finished fireplace. The floor plans available in Phase One of the development range from 1909 sq. ft. – 1986sq.ft.

Each unit offers four-bedrooms, three-and-a-half-baths and a large gourmet kitchen that opens to a family room. Master bedrooms boast elegant chandeliers and large 55-sq.-ft. walk-in closets. Luxurious master baths offer enclosed double-wide showers with beautiful Italian tile surround, “The homes at Zen just don’t feel like run-of-the-mill townhomes. They’re bigger, better and bolder.” — Anita, sales manager quartz countertops with his and hers undermount sinks, full counter-width mirrors, heated towel bars and, for the lady of the house, a custom-built makeup vanity.

INSPIRING KITCHENS
The kitchens here could inspire even the least domesticated among us to don an apron and get to work. These have custom-made, shaker-style, soft-close cabinets, quartz countertops and a large 4 ft. by 4 ft. Kitchen Island— with an optional wine fridge!

For outdoor space, all buyers have a large deck measuring 8’ x 20’ and a hook-up for a gas BBQ. Homeowners will also have a choice of either picket-fenced front yards or backyards that are fully enclosed by 6-ft.-high fencing. The site will be landscaped with beautiful flowering shrubbery, as well as tree lined streets and paved walkways. This development will also offer visitor parking with additional off-street parking. Zen is located adjacent to a park and open greenspace perfect for relaxing, evening strolls.
